PTx2: Global Impact, Local Solutions
The International Association of Public Transport launched its PTx2 strategy in 2009. This article describes this strategy, which is aimed at doubling public transportation’s modal share worldwide by 2025. Most of the work in meeting this goal will involve local solutions, since the provision of public transportation is usually a local function. However, some region-wide or interregional initiatives are developing, and a few countries are initiating national solutions. A good PTx2 strategy requires vision, innovative management, money, and winning over new customers and retaining current customers. The article highlights various solutions that cities throughout the world are implementing to develop attractive public transportation systems.
