A Study on Provide Road Surface Information Through Road Surface Hazard Grade Assessment
Since drivers tend to drive depending on only road conditions identified through the eye, it is needed to develop technologies to set a driver's activity plan by offering information about a level of dangerous situations (freezing, hydroplaning, falling objects, etc.) in advance. In order to secure safety of drivers who are road users, it is required to produce risk information about dangerous spots and sections, and the information could be delivered to road operators and drivers effectively. This study is aimed at establishing a method to provide road surface conditions by collecting road surface conditions and risk information for information provision, selecting the scope of information provision, and developing a risk producing algorithm with road friction coefficients for such a purpose. The risk level is divided from level 2 (very dangerous) to level 5 (normal) according to risk producing algorithm for road frictional forces. It is normally assigned as a level 5, and when an unexpected situation is occurred in front, it is assigned as a level 1 to inform drivers the risk information.
