DEVELOPMENT OF A COMPUTER PROGRAM TO AID THE INVESTIGATION OF HIGHWAY ACCIDENTS
A COMPUTER PROGRAM AND AN ASSOCIATED OPTICAL MEASUREMENT SYSTEM ARE DESCRIBED WHICH HAVE BEEN DEVELOPED TO AID THE INVESTIGATION OF HIGHWAY ACCIDENTS. THE DESCRIBED DEVELOPMENTS CONSTITUTE THE MAJOR COMPONENTS OF A SYSTEM WHICH WILL HAVE THE CAPABILITY OF PROCESSING AND EVALUATING DATA, VIA RADIO CONTRACT WITH THE OPERATOR OF A TIME-SHARING COMPUTER TERMINAL, WHILE THE INVESTIGATORS ARE AT THE ACCIDENT SCENE. RECONSTRUCTIONS PRODUCED BY THE COMPUTER PROGRAM ARE COMPARED WITH THE RESULTS OF STAGED COLLISIONS IN THE LITERATURE. THE INSTRUMENTED OPTICAL SYSTEM IS DESCRIBED IN DETAIL AND RESULTS OF TRIAL APPLICATIONS ARE DISCUSSED. PLANS FOR COMPLETION AND EVALUATION OF THE OVERALL SYSTEM ARE PRESENTED AND DISCUSSED. /AUTHOR/
