Designing Highway Facilities to Encourage Walking, Biking and Transit
The California Department of Transportation intends to incorporate the needs of bicyclists, pedestrians and transit users in its highway facility designs. This Preliminary Investigation finds that while there is a great deal of information on facility design for those users, information on the effectiveness or impact of particular highway facility design on travelers' choice of walking, biking and transit travel modes is very limited and more research is needed.
