Analysis of Jinan BRT Speed Characteristics Based on Vehicle Traveling Data Recorder
Based on the speed data and fuel consumption information from the Jinan bus rapid transit (BRT) vehicle traveling data recorder, this paper analyzed the cumulative time-fuel consumption and time-distance variation rules to find out the bottleneck points causing delays. The probability distribution curve fitting was analyzed by the method of kernel density estimation, and the test indicates that the travel speed of BRT presents some characteristics of normal distribution. The statistical analysis indicates that there is obvious PM-low-peak and AM-low-peak of travel speed in workdays. Road right guarantee is the important condition to ensure high speed of BRT. The bigger the travel speed will be, the less the fuel consumption will be. The fuel consumption of an 18 m length BRT vehicle is more than that of a 12 m length vehicle. Finally, the operation level of Jinan BRT speed was evaluated, and improvement strategies were suggested based on the analysis of speed characteristics.
