Traffic Delay Caused by Curb Parking Set in the Influenced Area of Signalized Intersection

In order to enhance the utilizing efficiency and accessibility of curb parking and minimize the impact on dynamic traffic flow, this paper focuses on an urban road without separation and analyzes the traffic delay caused by vehicles deviating from a parking facility and driven into curb parking spaces in the influenced area of a signalized intersection. The authors then analyze the total delay time of the signalized intersection and establish a model to describe the relationship among the delay time-Di, the distance from the stop line to the curb parking lots L0, the signal cycle length C and the time of red light r. Taking the curb parking lots on Tianjin road in Nanjing city for application, the authors research the relationship between Di (caused by two aspects consisting of the first berth and the distanceL0) and C as well as r. The results show that different degrees of traffic saturation result in different values of L0, and the signal control parameters also have great effects on the total delay time.
