PRIMERS WITH A ZINC BASE CONTAINING ADDITIVES
PRIMERS WITH A ZINC BASE AND CONTAINING SEVEN DIFFERENT ADDITIVES WERE PREPARED. THREE PRIMERS WERE OBTAINED FROM EACH ADDITIVE: ONE CONTAINED ONLY ZINC DUST; IN THE OTHER TWO, PART OF THE ZINC WAS REPLACED BY 5 AND 10 PERCENT RESPECTIVELY OF HIGHLY LEAFING ALUMINIUM. THE PRIMERS WERE APPLIED TO LOW CARBON STEEL PLATES, PREVIOUSLY SAND-BLASTED, AND WERE SUBMITTED TO RAFT TRIALS, WEATHER-OMETER, SALT FOG AND EXTERIOR EXPOSURE TEST. THE NECESSITY FOR A VERY IMPERMEABLE FILM OF A BOOT TOPPING-PAINT APPLIED ON THE PRIMER FOR SATISFACTORY ANTICORROSION PROTECTION WAS ESTABLISHED. THE PRIMERS SHOW SATISFACTORY BEHAVIOR IN UNCONTAMINATED ENVIRONMENT EVEN IF THEY WERE NOT PROTECTED WITH A TOP COAT. /TRRL/
