BOILER DESIGN FOR LNG CARRIERS
This paper discusses details of the development of marine boilers for dual fuel firing on LNG ships, these being based on experience gained in the design of boilers for the majority of LNG ships now at sea, or on order. The first purpose built LNG Carriers entered service in 1964 and there is thus a good background of experience on which to draw, with data also on control equipment and burners. The latest ships now entering service incorporate both the lessons learnt from these earlier ships and the developments in conventional oil fired marine boilers taking place during the intervening years. Also outlined are the special requirements for methane firing and the manner in which these special requirements are met.
