GAS GENERATORS FOR INFLATABLE RESTRAINTS
CHRYSLER'S THREE BASIC DECISIONS ON INFLATABLE RESTRAINTS WERE: TO DEVELOP FIRST A STEERING WHEEL BAG FOR THE DRIVER'S PROTECTION; TO USE A RELATIVELY SMALL, HIGH PRESSURE BAG OF SIMPLE SHAPE WHICH WOULD BE ENGAGED BY THE OCCUPANT AS HE STARTS TO MOVE FORWARD INSTEAD OF REACHING OUT TO ENVELOP HIM; AND TO ATTEMPT TO DEVELOP A BAG-INFLATING GAS SUPPLY WHICH WOULD NOT REQUIRE LONG-TERM STORAGE UNDER PRESSURE. PROBLEMS INVOLVED WITH THE GAS GENERATORS, SUCH AS POSSIBLE GAS TOXICITY, ARE DISCUSSED. /HSL/
