OHIO'S EMERGENCY COMMAND POST VEHICLE
A SPECIALLY DESIGNED COMPACT MOBILE UNIT WHICH IS USED AS A COMBINATION COMMAND AND COMMUNICATIONS CENTER FOR THE OHIO STATE HIGHWAY PATROL PROVED ITS USEFULNESS IN TWO EMERGENCY SITUATIONS WITHIN TWO MONTHS OF ITS COMPLETION AND AVAILABILITY FOR FIELD USE; FIRST, DURING THE FLOODS IN NORTHERN OHIO WHEN NO COMMUNICATION FACILITIES OF THE FREMONT PATROL POST WERE FUNCTIONING, AND AGAIN WHEN A CIVIL DISTURBANCE BROKE OUT IN COLUMBUS AND THE VEHICLE WAS USED AS HEADQUARTERS FOR 500 POLICEMEN AND 1200 NATIONAL GUARD TROOPS. THE COMMAND VEHICLE IS BELIEVED TO BE NOT MORE THAN 2-1/2 HOURS AWAY FROM ANY EMERGENCY SITE IN THE STATE AND THEREFORE AN INVALUABLE ASSET IN TIME OF NEED.
