Traffic Information Collection Based on RFID and WSN

Obtaining real-time traffic information parameters accurately is one of the key techniques in Intelligent Transportation Systems. According to the features of traffic information, the large amount and the complexity, it comparatively analyses the merits and the demerits of Radio Frequency Identification( RFID )and Wireless Sensor Network ( WSN ) technologies. The feasibility of integrating RFID and WSN technologies are discussed and the advantages of these technologies are used in traffic management applications. Here, a new self-organized network structure is designed and described in detail how RFID and WSN work together perfectly and how to sense the state messages of the surrounding objects and environment in order to collect information which is needed by traffic management system. Meanwhile those state messages are sent to the Data Management Center by wireless communication technology. By this way the problems of real-time, comprehensiveness, economy and reliability in the collection of traffic information are effectively solved.
