DIRECT COSTS OF CALIFORNIA STATE HIGHWAY ACCIDENTS

USING DATA FURNISHED BY THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE DIRECT COSTS OF ACCIDENTS OCCURRING ON THE CALIFORNIA STATE HIGHWAY SYSTEM HAVE BEEN ESTIMATED. THESE COSTS HAVE BEEN CATEGORIZED BY SEVERITY, VEHICLE TYPE (CARS/TRUCKS), ACCESS CONTROL (FREEWAY/NONFREEWAY), AND THE RURAL-URBAN DICHOTOMY. THREE POSSIBLE PLANNING AND BUDGETING USES OF ACCIDENT COST DATA ARE SUGGESTED. /AUTHOR/
