PUMPING TESTS OF FAST-SETTING GYMPSUM
PREVIOUS TESTS HAVE CONFIRMED THAT FAST-SETTING, HIGH-STRENGTH GYPSUM CEMENTS CAN SUPPORT FULLY LOADED FIGHTER AIRCRAFT WITHIN THIRTY MINUTES AFTER PLACEMENT, AN IMPORTANT CONSIDERATION IN REPAIR OF RUNWAYS THAT HAVE SUFFERED BATTLE DAMAGE. HOWEVER, EXIGENCIES OF BATTLE ZONES REQUIRE LIGHTWEIGHT, COMPACT, MASS-APPLICATION EQUIPMENT THAT IS TRANSPORTABLE BY AIR. ACCORDINGLY, THE AIR FORCE INSTITUTED A TEST PROGRAM TO EVALUATE A SELECTED MIXER--PUMP TO PLACE A PARTICULAR GYPSUM CEMENT THAT WAS THOUGHT TO OFFER THE GREATEST STRENGTH POTENTIAL. THE MIXER'S COMPONENTS AND OPERATION ARE DESCRIBED, AND TESTS TO DETERMINE REQUIRED SLAB DEPTH ARE DISCUSSED.
