TRANSPORT OF CEMENT BY SHIP IN SWEDEN
THE FIRM OF SKANSKA CEMENTAKTIEBOLAGET HAS, SINCE 1948, SYSTEMATICALLY DEVELOPED THE DISTRIBUTION OF CEMENT BY MEANS OF SHIPS TO SILO INSTALLATIONS ALONG THE COAST. IN 1966, 82% OF THE OUTPUT WAS CONVEYED IN BULK BY THIS MEANS. THE FIRM NOW HAS SIX SPECIAL SHIPS IN SERVICE. THE LATEST OF THESE, BUILT IN 1965 AND 1966, EACH HAS A CARRYING CAPACITY OF 3000 TONS. THE LOADING AND DISCHARGING EQUIPMENT IS DESCRIBED. IT COMPRESES HORIZONTAL AND VERTICAL SCREW CONVEYORS AND ALSO EN MASSE CONVEYORS WHICH EXTRACT THE CEMENT FROM THE SHIP'S HOLDS. THE HANDLING EQUIPMENT IS OPERATED BY PUSHBUTTON CONTROL FROM A CENTRAL CONTROL ROOM. /AUTHOR/
