TRAFFIC CONTROLS FOR MAINTENANCE OPERATIONS
THE NEED FOR IMPROVEMENTS IN TRAFFIC CONTROLS FOR HIGHWAY CONSTRUCTION AND MAINTENANCE PROJECTS IS SHOWN BY THE FACT THAT DURING 1969 ARIZONA EXPERIENCED 278 ACCIDENTS OF A C&M NATURE INVOLVING 18 FATALITIES AND 131 MAJOR DAMAGE ASSESSMENTS. A SET OF TABLES RELATING TO DELINEATOR SPACING AT CURVES, DECELERATION DISTANCES, TAPER RATES AND LENGTH, AND SPACE BETWEEN BARRICADES AND CONES FOR VARIOUS HIGHWAY TYPES IS PROPOSED AS A MINIMUM STANDARD FOR C&M TRAFFIC CONTROL.
