New Surface Course Specification for Scotland

In 2006, an examination of road surfacings used in Scotland was found to be inadequate and revealed surfacings with a very short service life. Transport Scotland initiated a program to closely monitor road surfaces which included annual pavement inspections, industry workshops, field trips to German to review their stone mastic asphalt applications and comprehensive road trials in Scotland. This report details the research conducted and development of new performance-based surface coatings which should provide long term durability and better economic value.
