The Simulation of the Effects of the Traffic Management Trial Amsterdam

The Traffic Management Trial Amsterdam is a large-scale project in which coordinated, network-wide traffic management will be implemented, tested and evaluated. To study the effects of the trial before implementation, a simulation study was done with the Regional Traffic Management Explorer (RMTE). It was shown that the RTME represents the current situation (scenario 2007) quite well. The results of the simulations for the regular situation are promising. The Traffic Management Trial Amsterdam is ment to study the effects of network-wide, coordinated traffic management on a regional scale in a real-life situation. The trial uses the sustainable traffic management (STM) process to determine the measures. The measures vary from adjustment of weaving sections to information using a new type of variable message signs (VMS) and ramp metering.
