LABORATORY STUDY OF SPUR DIKES FOR HIGHWAY BRIDGE PROTECTION
THIS RESEARCH STUDY OF SPUR DIKES WAS CONDUCTED TO DETERMINE THE VALUE OF SPUR DIKES AS PROTECTION FOR BRIDGE ABUTMENTS AND TO DETERMINE THE RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN THE VARIOUS GEOMETRIC PARAMETERS. THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE SPUR DIKE FOR REDUCING SCOUR WAS DEMONSTRATED AND THE LOCATION AND SHAPE DETERMINED. CRITERIA WERE ESTABLISHED FOR DETERMINING THE LENGTH OF DIKE REQUIRED AT A PARTICULAR LOCATION. THE RESULTS ARE QUALITATIVE AND RESTRICTED BY THE LIMITATIONS OF THE STUDY. /AUTHOR/
