AN ELECTRICAL ANALOGUE SOLUTION OF THE EQUATIONS GOVERNING THE COOLING OF A ROAD STRUCTURE BY CONVECTION
ROAD HEATING INSTALLATIONS WHICH USE OFF-PEAK ELECTRICITY RELY ON THE THERMAL STORAGE OF THE ROAD STRUCTURE TO MAINTAIN SURFACE TEMPERATURES ABOVE FREEZING POINT DURING PERIODS WHEN ELECTRICITY IS NOT AVAILABLE. IN ORDER TO ESTIMATE THE REQUIRED HEATING LOAD AND OPERATING TEMPERATURE OF AN INSTALLATION A KNOWLEDGE OF THE RATE OF COOLING DURING THESE PERIODS IS REQUIRED. THIS NOTE DESCRIBES THE USE OF AN ELECTRICAL ANALOGUE TO INVESTIGATE THE COOLING BY CONVECTION OF ROAD STRUCTURES OF VARIOUS TYPES. /AUTHOR/
