Abstract: The objetive of this investigation was to investigate the feasibility of improving the friction characteristics of aggregates with a low polish value, blending them with aggregates with a high polish value, and find the appropriated blend proportion. Aggregates from the states of Coahuila and Nuevo Leon were evaluated, to each sample was tested for insoluble acid residue (Tex 612-J), aggregate soundness by use of magnesium sulfate and accelerated polishing (Tex 438-A). Based on test results by accelerated polishing, the aggregates for blending were selected. The blend percentage used were 50/50, 60/40, 70/30 and 80/20 of aggregate with high and low polish values, respectively. The initial friction coefficient, polish value and polish rate were determined for the aggregates and each different blends. The results indicate that the aggregate blends presented an improvement in the polish value of one or two units for each 10% increase of aggregate with a high polish value in the blend. It was found that the blend of slag-limestone and granite-dolomita in a proportion 80/20 , the aggregate with high and low polish value, were more resistant to the polishing. Whereas the granite-limestone blend in its different proportions was susceptible to the polish. Included tables, figures and conclusions.
