RESTORATION OF JOINT AND SPALL FAILURES ON PCC PAVEMENT
METHODS FOR RESTORING JOINT AND SPALL FAILURES ON PORTLAND CEMENT CONCRETE PAVEMENT WERE TESTED ON A SECTION OF US 83 IN MINOT, NORTH DAKOTA. TRANSVERSE JOINTS WERE RESAWED, CLEANED AND RESEALED WITH PREFORMED NEOPRENE. SPALLED AREAS UP TO 36 SQ. IN. WERE REPAIRED WITH EPOXY PATCHING MORTAR COMPOSED OF PRESSTITE NO 1190 CONCRETE ADHESIVE MIXED WITH PORTLAND CEMENT MORTAR, WITH AIR ENTRAINMENT AND A CALCIUM CHLORIDE ACCELERATOR ADDED. THE EPOXY PATCHES GENERALLY HAVE HELD WELL, AND THE NEOPRENE SEALS HAVE SUCCESSFULLY WITH- STOOD TEMPERATURES AS LOW AS -31F.
