Results of intelligibility and comprehensibility of pictographs as used in the Czech Republic, Austria and Hungary

Vysledky posuzovani srozumitelnosti a pochopitelnosti dopravnich symbolu (piktogramu) realizovanych v Ceske republice, Rakousku a Madarsku

In frame of the international Infrastructure and Safety (IN SAFETY) project a test of comprehensibility of pictographs in three countries – the Czech Republic, Austria and Hungary – in the half of 2006 was carried out. The Centre of Transport Research Centre (CDV) of the Czech Republic, the University of Krems and the International Institute for Information (IIID) of Austria, and the Institute of Transport Science (KTI) of Hungary were the project partners. The test was carried out in written. There were 84 variants of 33 symbols of pictographs tested by 604 drivers. Twenty of tested symbols gauner a 58% score (according to ISO) and were recommended for final proposal of pictographs.
