CONTROL OF GLAZED ICE BY MEANS OF CHEMICAL THAWING AGENTS
THE AUTHOR DISCUSSES A NEW METHOD OF RECORDING THE RESULTS OF PRACTICAL TESTS TO COMPARE THE USEFULNESS OF VARIOUS THAWING COMPOUNDS, TO ASSESS THE TECHNICAL AND ECONOMIC IMPORTANCE OF CACL 2 AND NACL MIXTURES, THE CONDITIONS WITH WHICH GRITTING MACHINES MUST COMPLY, THE STORAGE OF CHEMICAL THAWING COMPOUNDS AND TO DETERMINE THE EFFECT OF CHEMICAL SOLVENTS ON CARS AND ROAD SURFACES. THE MOST IMPORTANT CONCLUSIONS ARE' THE USE OF THAWING COMPOUNDS /CACL 2 OR A MIXTURE OF CACL 2 AND NACL/ LEADS TO A DECREASE IN ACCIDENTS, NO DAMAGE WAS NOTICED ON CONCRETE ROADS OF FIRM CONSTRUCTION, AIR ENTRAINING AGENTS ARE RECOMMENDED, THAWING SALTS ARE HARMLESS ON FIRM ASPHALTIC CONCRETE SURFACES. /FG/RRL/
