RATIONAL METHODS OF CLEANING AGGREGATES /IN RUSSIAN/

EXISTING METHODS OF CLEANING AGGREGATES ARE REVIEWED, AND THEIR EFFICIENCY IS ASSESSED. IMPURITIES ARE CLASSIFIED INTO 3 CATEGORIES ACCORDING TO THE EASE WITH WHICH THEY CAN BE SEPERATED FROM THE AGGREGATE. WET, DRY, AND SPECIAL METHODS OF CLEANING AGGREGATES ARE DESCRIBED. DETAILS ARE GIVEN OF THE EQUIPMENT DEVELOPED AT SOYUZDORNII, AND OF THE TESTS CARRIED OUT. SPECIAL MENTION IS MADE OF TWIN-DRUM MECHANICAL CLASSIFIERS (TYPE TBK-20) FOR SEPERATING LUMPS OF CLAY FROM AGGREGATES. DURING THE WET CLEANING OF AGGREGATES, WETTING TIME IS THE MOST IMPORTANT FACTOR: THE LONGER THE WETTING PHASE, THE QUICKER THE CLEANING PROCESS. BASED ON THIS OBSERVATION, A SYSTEM HAS BEEN DEVISED FOR SEPERATING WASHED SAND CONTAINED IN MATERIALS RETAINED AFTER CRUSHING. SKETCHES SHOW PARTS OF THE SPECIAL EQUIPMENT DESIGNED IN THE USSR. THIS REVIEW CLEARLY SHOWS THE PRESENT TREND IN USING VIBRATORY EQUIPMENT FOR THE CLEANING OF CHIPPINGS AND GRAVEL. /LCPC/RRL/
