PROBLEMS IN OBTAINING GOOD COATING MATERIALS

Modern paint technology has produced a number of new synthetic coatings that cure by chemical reaction or simple solvent evaporation and have many advantages over older, drying oil-type paints. In many ways, however, these new coatings are more difficult to apply than older paints in that they require more care in both preparing the substrate before application and in actual mixing and applying the coating. This article discusses problem areas that may arise to the Public Works Officer in obtaining a good coating job whether it be performed by station forces or a private contractor.
