PLASTER COMPOSITIONS: REDUCTION IN WATER ABSORPTION OF GYPSUM PLASTER WITH ACRYLIC POLYMERS
VARIOUS ACRYLIC POLYMERS AND COPOLYMERS REDUCE THE WATER ABSORPTION OF CALCIUM SULFATE PLASTERS WHEN USED AT LOW CONCENTRATIONS. THESE INCLUDE POLYACRYLAMIDE, POLYACRYLIC ACID, SODIUM OR POTASSIUM POLYACRYLATE, AND N-METHYLOPOLYACRYLAMIDE, AS WELL AS THE COPOLYMERS ETHYL ACRYLATE-ACRYLONITRILE, ETHYL ACRYLATE-AMMONIUM ACRYLATE, ACRYLAMIDE-ACRYLIC ACID, AND STARCH-ACRYLONITRILE. THE ACTIVITY OF THE ACRYLIC POLYMERS MAY BE RELATED TO THEIR ABILITY TO ACT AS FLOCCULATING AGENTS IN AQUEOUS SOLUTIONS. MANY ACRYLIC POLYMERS ARE RETARDERS OR ACCELERATORS OF SET TIME OR ALTERED THE FLUIDITY OF THE PLASTER. /AUTHOR/
