Seating Options Focus on Seat Belts, Convenience and Compartmentalization
New transit seating designs are on the market and various models feature such amenities as two- and three-point seat belts; modular, stainless steel construction for easy maintenance and vandalism resistance; and more color options for back panels and fabrics. Some existing seats can even be retrofitted with two- or three-point restraints. Green options include seat cushion foam made from vegetable oil and fabrics from recycled yarn. Multiple manufacturers are also reducing the weight of their products in order to comply with guidelines put forth at the American Public Transit Association's 2011 conference and in order to increase capacity.
