RADIOACTIVE TRACER TECHNIQUE FOR LABORATORY CORROSION STUDIES
A RADIOACTIVE TRACER METHOD FOR DETERMINING THE CORROSION RATES OF MILD STEEL AND 316 STAINLESS STEEL IN SULFURIC ACID AT ROOM TEMPERATURE WAS DEVELOPED. IRRADIATED COUPONS OF THE METAL UNDER TEST WERE EXPOSED TO SULFURIC ACID, WHICH WAS CIRCULATED TO A FLOW CELL IN THE WELL OF A SCINTILLATION COUNTER. THE CORROSION RATES WERE DETERMINED BY COMPARING THE COUNTING RATES WITH THOSE FROM KNOWN WEIGHTS OF IRRADIATED COMPARISON STANDARDS. /AUTHOR/
