AMINE CURED EPOXY RESIN COATINGS FOR RESISTANCE TO ATMOSPHERIC CORROSION
AMINE CURED EPOXY RESIN COATING FORMULATIONS ARE UNIQUE IN PROVIDING ROOM TEMPERATURE CURED FINISHES HAVING MANY FILM PORPERTIES NORMALLY ASSOCIATED ONLY WITH BAKED COATINGS. THESE PROPERTIES ARE ACHIEVED THROUGH REACTION OF THE ACTIVE HYDROGENS OF ALIPHATIC AMINES WITH THE EPOXY GROUPS OF THE RESIN TO FORM COMPLEX THREE DIMENSIONAL POLYMERS. SEVERAL TYPES OF ALIPHATIC AMINES CAN BE USED AS CURING AGENTS FOR THESE COATINGS. THE HIGHLY STABLE AND CHEMICALLY RESISTANT ETHER LINKAGES WHICH PREDOMINATE ARE WIDELY SPACED, GIVING UNIQUE TOUGHNESS AND FLEXIBILITY TO THE THERMOSET POLYMER. THE POLAR NATURE OF THE MOLECULE CONTRIBUTES TO THE SUPERIOR ADHESION OF THESE COATINGS. AMINE CURED EPOXY RESIN COATINGS COMBINE EXCELLENT RESISTANCE TO MOST CORROSIVE MATERIALS WITH OUTSTANDING RESISTANCE TO MECHANICAL SHOCK AND ABRASION. AMINE CURED EPOXY RESIN COATINGS ARE NOT RECOMMENDED FOR USE IN SERVICES WHERE CONTINUOUS EXPOSURE TO LOW MOLECULAR WEIGHT KETONES, CONCENTRATED ORGANIC ACIDS, OR OXIDIZING ACIDS ABOVE VERY DILUTE CONCENTRATIONS IS ANTICIPATED. AMINE CURED EPOXY RESIN COATINGS ARE SUPPLIED AS TWO-PACKAGE SYSTEMS. SHELF OF EACH COMPONENT NORMALLY EXCEEDS 2 YEARS FROM DATE OF MANUFACTURE. MAJOR COMPONENTS OF AMINE CURED EPOXY RESIN SYSTEMS ARE DESCRIBED WITH PRECAUTIONARY COMMENTS.
