GLOSS READINGS: AN ILLUSION OF ACCURACY
A RECENT SURVEY WAS PERFORMED TO DEMONSTRATE THE LACK OF AGREEMENT AMONG LABORATORIES IN GLOSS DETERMINATION. THE RESULTS HAVE GENERATED DISCUSSION OF THE PAINT INDUSTRY'S NEED FOR MORE GEOMETRICAL UNIFORM, LINEARLY RESPONSIVE INSTRUMENTATION, MORE APPROPRIATE STANDARDS, AND MORE CAREFUL ATTENTION TO CALIBRATION AND MAINTENANCE OF BOTH INSTRUMENTS AND STANDARDS. THE COLLECTED DATA ARE TABULATED.
