SOME DESIGN ASPECTS OF FLOATING NUCLEAR PLANTS

Present estimates indicate the total U.S. energy demand will nearly double between now and the mid-eighties. Nuclear energy supply is running behind expectations for its estimated demand by 1985. However, Offshore Power Systems' manufacturing concept and offshore siting will be significant in reducing some of the concerns which are believed to contribute in leading to delays in growth of the nation's nuclear generating capacity. In the heavily populated seaboard areas, the Floating Nuclear Plant provides a way to meet man's increasing power requirements with a minimum effect on his environment. This paper describes some design aspects of the Floating Nuclear Plant and discusses the manufacturing facility for the plants.
