Incentives and Aids for the Development of Routes under EU Law: Practical Guide for Airports and Airlines
Incentives and aid have become essential for airports in attracting new routes, especially following the liberalization of the European air transportation sector. This paper discusses the European Union rules regarding commercial incentives and aids to airlines for the promotion of new routes. Practical guidelines are offered for public authorities and airports to follow when negotiating with airlines for new route development. The guidelines can help avoid future legal complications following a complaint by a competing airline or airport.
