YOUNG'S MODULUS OF COMPOSITES FILLED WITH RANDOMLY ORIENTED FIBERS
YOUNG'S MODULUS OF FIBER-FILLED COMPOSITES IN WHICH THE FIBERS ARE RANDOMLY ORIENTED IN A PLANE HAS BEEN CALCULATED USING EQUATIONS BASED ON THE CLASSICAL THEORY OF ELASTICITY. THE THEORETICAL RESULTS ARE COMPARED WITH THE EXPERIMENTAL. FOR FIBERS WITH MODULI MUCH GREATER THAN THAT OF THE MATRIX, RANDOMLY ORIENTED FIBERS GIVE MODULI MUCH SMALLER THAN THE MODULI MEASURED ON COMPOSITES CONTAINING FIBERS ALL ALIGNED PARALLEL TO THE DIRECTION OF THE APPLIED TENSILE STRESS. /ASTM/
