THE EFFECT OF FILM PIGMENT AND SUBSTRATE COLORS ON THE REFLECTANCE OF PAINT FILMS
TRANSMITTANCE DATA FOR BLUE, GREEN, ORANGE, RED, AND YELLOW PAINT FILMS, AND REFLECTANCE DATA OVER BOTH COLORED AND NEUTRAL SUBSTRATES WERE OBTAINED AND SHOWN TO FOLLOW A UNIFORM, PREDICTABLE RELATIONSHIP IRRESPECTIVE OF THE COLOR OF THE FILM OR SUBSTRATE. THE KUBELKA-MUNK THEORY AND THE EQUATION OF SWITZER FOR THE CALCULATION OF HIDING POWER WERE SHOWN TO BE APPLICABLE TO CHROMATIC PAINT FILMS, PROVIDING THAT THE OPTICAL CONSTANTS ARE EVALUATED AT A SINGLE WAVELENGTH OR OVER A NARROW BAND OF WAVELENGTHS. /AUTHOR/
