GAS METAL-ARC SPOT WELDING FOR STRUCTURAL STEEL CONNECTIONS
SINGLE GAS METAL-ARC SPOT-WELDED LAP JOINTS USED TO JOIN TWO SPECIMENS OF STRUCTURAL STEEL ARE INVESTIGATED. THE STATIC LOAD-CARRYING CAPABILITIES OF THIS TYPE OF JOINT ARE DISCUSSED. THE WELDS PRODUCED BY CARBON DIOXIDE-SHIELDED METAL-ARC WELDING EQUIPMENT WERE STUDIED. THE STATIC STRENGTH CHARACTERISTICS OF THESE WELDS WERE DETERMINED AND WHETHER THEY CAN BE CONSIDERED STATICALLY RELIABLE FOR STRUCTURAL APPLICATIONS. THE FINDINGS REPORTED SUPPORT THE FEASIBILITY OF THE GAS METAL-ARC SPOT-WELDING PROCESS FOR SOME STRUCTURAL APPLICATIONS. THE BASIC STRENGTH PROPERTIES ARE REVEALED BY DIRECT SHEAR TEST DATA, TENSION TEST DATA, ROCKWELL HARDNESS, AND PHOTOMICROGRAPHS ON THE WELD METAL. /AUTHOR/
