GIS FOR BETTER OPERATIONAL PERFORMANCE AND SERVICE DELIVERY: THE MOVIA EXAMPLE
Most public transport agencies face a series of business challenges: how to provide the optimal service at the least cost, and how to maximize ridership and accessibility, all while providing high levels of customer service. Success requires an approach which relies on comprehensive information systems, which can integrate information across a number of stand-alone solutions. Copenhagen’s public transport agency – Movia – started with this approach: how to think of existing systems as part of a larger work flow, and to manage information in a comprehensive and corporate manner. This report presents the results of taking that approach: the GeoTransit solution. Built on GIS technology, GeoTransit is designed to bring together business critical information to allow public transit agencies to better plan, schedule and manage their operations. A comprehensive solution which integrates key operational information into a centralized database, GeoTransit delivers greater analytical capabilities to help improve service delivery and operational performance
