UITP VEHICLES AND EQUIPMENT INDUSTRY COMMITTEE (VEI). WORKING GROUP: ENERGY EFFICIENCY OF PT "THE CONTRIBUTION AND VIEW OF THE INDUSTRY" - INFORMATION / STATUS REPORT
This is an overview/ status report on the working group on Energy Efficiency in Public Transport of the UITP Vehicle and Equipment Industry Committee (VEI). The goal is to provide a toolbox to high ranking decision makers to be used for their decisions on future strategies by giving them a highly compact and easily understandable information on the latest developments the industry is working on in terms of energy efficiency of urban public transport. A savings potential analysis was made out of data existing from UITP, VEI members and open sources, and was filtered by aspects, the industry can fully or at least partially support by current or future developments. As a second step the use of energy was made visible for light rail/ metro and bus and the industry’s “bullet” developments of optimization have been listed in an abstract, highly compact way. The next step will be the evaluation of these developments in regard to their energy saving potential in order to give a “value tag” to every tool in the box of the decision makers. Furthermore the UITP VEI is supporting “2025=PTx2” and makes evident that the industry has been working on available and upcoming technologies that will help public transport to be even more energy effective
