AN UNORTHODOX LIFTING APPLIANCE ( EIN UNKONVENTIONELLES HEBEZEUG )

A report is given on a lifting appliance manufactured now under license in Germany. This appliance permits the three dimensional handling of medium-weight work pieces with almost complete gravity compensation. The radial movement of the Balancer is effected by a linkage assembled in the form of a parallelogram. The weight of the load is compensated by a compressed-air cylinder. The appliance can be suspended either in a fixed position from the roof structure or from a traveling trolley, but it is also available as a pillar-mounted stationary equipment. The examples given include applications such as operation in foundries, the positioning of work pieces on machine tools and transfer machines, and the assisting in assembly work. Applications have been found are also in fields other than engineering.
