PRACTICAL APPROACH TO THE STUDY OF POLYOLEFIN WEATHERABILITY
THE STUDY OF POLYOLEFIN WEATHERABILITY EXTENDS TO COMPARING WEATHER-OMETER RESULTS WITH SERVICE RECORDS FOR COOLING TOWER SIDE PANELS FABRICATED FROM HIGH DENSITY POLYETHYLENE (PE), GREEN AND RED PE STRIPS INTERWOVEN IN A CHAIN LINK FENCE, PE RURAL DELIVERY NEWSPAPER TUBES, AND INJECTION MOLDED HIGH DENSITY PE SEATS. THE WEATHER-OMETER DATA, WITH FEW EXCEPTIONS, GAVE A CONSERVATIVE ESTIMATE OF THE OUTDOOR SERVICE LIFE OF THE FORMULATIONS. SIX PROPERTIES FOR MONITORING ULTRAVIOLET DEGRADATION WERE EVALUATED: SURFACE CRAZING, TENSILE PROPERTIES, FLEX TESTS, BRITTLENESS TEMPERATURE, MELT INDEX, AND AGING OF STRESSED SPECIMENS.
