RECENT DEVELOPMENTS IN THE ANALYSIS AND PREDICTION OF WEATHERABILITY OF PLASTICS
THE MOST RELIABLE METHOD OF ESTIMATING THE WEATHERABILITY OF A PLASTIC MATERIAL UNDER SELECTED OUTDOOR CONDITIONS APPEARS TO BE BASED ON THE ACTUAL OUTDOOR EXPOSURE OF THE MATERIAL FOR THE DURATION UNDER CONSIDERATION. QUALITIVE CHEMICAL TECHNIQUES HAVE BEEN SUCCESSFUL IN PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT APPLICATIONS. AN APPROACH BASED ON THE CONCEPT OF EXPOSURE PARAMETERS SHOWS POTENTIAL FOR PREDICTING LONG- TERM OUTDOOR WEATHERABILITY AT ANY DESIRED LOCATION ON THE BASIS OF ACCELERATED INDOOR STUDIES. AN INVESTIGATION OF 13 PROPERTIES OF 10 PLASTICS IN THE XENON WEATHER-OMETER SHOWED THAT CHANGES IN PROPERTIES OBEYED A RELATIONSHIP EXPRESSED IN AN EQUATION.
