DETERMINATION OF THE ELASTIC RECOVERY OF BINDER/POLYMER MIXTURES USING A MODIFIED SLIDING PLATE VISCOMETER
THE ELASTIC PROPERTIES OF BINDERS ARE STRONGLY INFLUENCED BY CERTAIN POLYMERIC ADDITIVES. A SLIDING-PLATE MICROVISCOMETER HAS BEEN MODIFIED FOR THE DETERMINATION OF THE ELASTIC RECOVERY OF BITUMENS, RUBBER BITUMENS AND MIXTURES OF TAR WITH SYNTHETIC POLYMERS. IN THE BITUMEN/NATURAL-RUBBER SYSTEM THE ELASTIC RECOVERY IS SHOWN TO BE RELATED TO THE EFFECTIVE RUBBER CONTENT OF THE BINDER. IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT THE MEASUREMENT OF ELASTIC RECOVERY SHOULD BE CONSIDERED FOR THE ASSESSMENT OF RUBBERISED BINDERS AS AN ALTERNATIVE TO THE PRESENT METHOD. /AUTHOR/
