USE OF PLASTIC INSERT MATERIAL FOR TRANSVERSE JOINTS IN CONCRETE PAVEMENTS
SPECIFICATIONS FOR THE PLASTIC STRIP REQUIRE THAT IT HAVE 0.013 IN MINIMUM THICKNESS AND 0.17 FT. TO 0.18 FT. WIDTH. A MECHANICAL DEVICE IS USED TO PLACE THE STRIP IN THE CONCRETE BEHIND THE PAVING MACHINE AND IN FRONT OF THE FINISHING MACHINE. THIS METHOD IS COMPARABLE TO THE SAWING THE SEALING METHOD, EVEN AS FAR AS COSTS ARE CONCERNED. HOWEVER, ON STUDIES HAVE BEEN MADE ON THE CONDITION OF THE JOINTS AFTER AFTER SEVERAL YEARS OF WEAR.
