REPAIRING JOINTS WITH PRE-CAST SLABS
PRE-CAST CONCRETE SLABS ARE USED EXPERIMENTALLY TO MINIMIZE LANE-CROSSING DURING REPAIR WORK. THE TECHNIQUE DEVELOPED FOR SLAB INSTALLATION IS DESCRIBED. A SLAB WITHOUT LOAD TRANSFER PROVISION WAS INSTALLED IN 2 TO 2 1/2 HOURS, WHEREAS THE INSTALLATION OF SLABS WITH LOAD TRANSFER REQUIRED 3 TO 3 1/2 HOURS. THESE TIMES INCLUDE THE REMOVAL OF THE DETERIORATED PAVEMENT, BUT NOT THE SAWING. IT IS HOPED TO DEVELOP THE PRE-CAST SLAB METHOD INTO A STANDARD PROCEDURE IN AREAS WHERE CONDITIONS WARRANT A SPEEDY REPAIR. /AUTHOR/
