OHIO'S EXPERIENCE WITH VIBRATORY METHODS OF PLACING CONCRETE AND TESTS WITH GRINDING AIDS

WITH VIBRATORY FINISHING IT IS POSSIBLE TO PLACE CONCRETE WITH A LOWER WATER-CEMENT RATIO AND LOWER SAND CONTENT THAN IS POSSIBLE WITH ORDINARY FINISHING METHODS, WITH AN ATTENDANT INCREASE IN STRENGTH. THE SOURCE OF VIBRATION SHOULD BE CLOSE ENOUGH TO THE SCREED TO INSURE THAT THE CONCRETE IS PROPERLY FINISHED WITH A MINIMUM NUMBER OF PASSES. OHIO'S EXPERIENCE INCLUDES SECTIONS MADE WITH VARIOUS TREATED PORTLAND CEMENTS, BLENDS OF PORTLAND CEMENT AND NATURAL CEMENT, BOTH WITH AND WITHOUT GRINDING
