MEASUREMENT OF AMPLITUDES IN PAVING CONCRETE BEING COMPACTED BY VIBRATION
DURING THE CONSTRUCTION OF A PAVEMENT IN WHICH SEVERAL EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURES WERE TRIED, TWO MAKES OF VIBRATORS WERE USED BY THE CONTRACTOR. MEASUREMENTS WERE MADE OF THE AMPLITUDES OF VIBRATION OF THE CONCRETE AT VARIOUS DISTANCES FROM THE VIBRATING ELEMENTS OF THE TWO VIBRATORS BY MEANS OF AN ELECTROMAGNETIC PICK-UP UNIT INSERTED INTO THE CONCRETE AS A PROBE. THE MAXIMUM MEASURED DOUBLE AMPLITUDE WAS 0.018 INCH. THE AMPLITUDE WAS FOUND TO DECREASE VERY RAPIDLY WITH DISTANCE FROM THE VIBRATING ELEMENT. /AUTHOR/
