DETERMINATION OF THE FALSE SET OF PORTLAND CEMENT

THE RESULTS OBTAINED WITH A CONE PENETRATION METHOD FOR THE STUDY OF THE FALSE SET OF PORTLAND CEMENT PASTE AND MORTAR ARE PRESENTED. CONES OF VARIOUS WEIGHTS, APEX ANGLES, AND APEX CONFIGURATIONS HAVE BEEN USED IN CONJUNCTION WITH A MODIFIED VICAT APPARATUS, AND IT WAS FOUND THAT FOR NORMALLY SETTING PORTLAND CEMENT PASTE AND MORTAR NEARLY LINEAR PENETRATION VERSUS TIME CURVES CAN BE OBTAINED. FALSE SETTING CEMENTS PRODUCE SETTING TIME CURVES WHICH DEVIATE FROM THE NORMAL CURVES DEPENDING UPON THE DEGREE OF FALSE SETTING CHARACTERISTICS AND UPON THE TIME AT WHICH THE FALSE SET OCCURS. /AUTHOR/
