MAINTENANCE OF IMPACT ATTENUATOR DEVICES USED IN OREGON
THREE ENERGY ABSORPTION BARRIERS - THE TEXAS BARREL, HI-DRO CUSHION, AND FITCH INERTIAL BARRIER - WERE INSTALLED ALONG THE INTERSTATE SYSTEM. LOCATIONS WERE CHOSEN WHICH WERE CONSIDERED TO BE HARZARDOUS, AND DOCUMENTATION REPORTS WERE ESTABLISHED TO RECORD THE HITS. DETAILS OF THE TYPES OF ACCIDENTS, MAINTENANCE REQUIRED BY THE BARRIERS, AND MAINTENANCE COSTS ARE GIVEN. THE BARRIERS ARE CONCLUDED TO BE BOTH EFFICIENT AND ECONOMICAL.
