KEEPING UP WITH OSHA
CONSTRUCTION IS ONE OF THE TARGET INDUSTRIES OF THE U.S. GOVERNMENT IN THE ENFORCEMENT OF THE OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH ACT (OSHA) OF 1970, YET MANY CONTRACTORS REMAIN IGNORANT OF ITS PROVISIONS. IN FACT, OF THE COMPANIES INSPECTED TO DATE ONLY ABOUT 20% HAVE BEEN FOUND IN COMPLIANCE WITH THE PROVISIONS OF THE ACT. THE PRESENT ARTICLE IS A COMPENDIUM OF SOURCES OF INFORMATION ABOUT THE ACT. THE SOURCES ARE TREATED UNDER SEVERAL TOPICAL HEADINGS: THE ACT ITSELF, BASIC EXPLANATIONS OF IT, DISCUSSIONS OF THE ACT (INCLUDING MANAGEMENT SEMINARS), TRANSCRIPTS OF MEETINGS, REFERENCE MANUALS, OFFICIAL MODIFICATIONS TO AND INTERPRETATIONS OF THE ACT, IN-HOUSE TRAINING, AND PERIODICAL LITERATURE.
