STUDYING THE PROBLEM OF DRIFTING SNOW
SNOW FENCE SYSTEMS, DESIGNED TO KEEP SNOW OFF THE ROAD AND TO REDUCE THE NEED FOR MAINTENANCE, WERE USED TO COLLECT FIELD MEASUREMENTS. A MATHEMATICAL MODEL WAS DEVELOPED TO EXPLAIN THE EVAPORATION OF BLOWING SNOW: FACTORS INFLUENCING THE SUBLIMATION RATE-SNOW TRANSPORT DISTANCE-INCLUDE TEMPERATURE, SOLAR RADIATION, RELATIVE HUMIDITY, AND PARTICLE SIZE. INSTRUMENTS SUCH AS A MOUNTED ANEMOMETER, WIND VANE, THERMOMETER, ETC., WERE USED TO COLLECT THE DATA.
