Rejuvenated Corridor
Florida's first hot in-place recycling (HIR) street resurfacing project was State Route 700 in western Palm Beach County, Florida. The project on the agricultural area's two lane rural highway won a 2010 Roads & Bridges (R&B)/Asphalt Recycling and Reclaiming Association (ARRA) Recycling Award. It lasted 490 days, covered 28 lane miles, and proved to be a major learning experience for the Florida Department of Transportation, the consultant, and the general contractor. The process, including use of four heating machines, is detailed in this article.
